👶 The world got busy in 2024

The world is a little more crowded this morning after welcoming approximately 71 million new people into the world during 2024. As of January 1, 2025, known to most of the world as New Years Day, the world has a population of approximately 8.09 billion people. I say “approximately”, because it’s not like you can hand count every human being on earth; that’d take like a whole lot of time.

We can thank the U.S. Census Bureau for doing the math for us. They crunched the census data from 241 countries and territories around the world to get us these stats, and they reveal some interesting facts.

• In 2024 the population of the world grew by 0.9% or 71 million new people, which is down a little from 2023 when we added 75 million new people

• In 2025 the world can expect to have 4.2 births for every 2.0 deaths worldwide every second of the day, which is both an insanely accurate prediction that is both uplifting and morbid.

• In the U.S. we’ll have 1 birth every 9 seconds, and 1 death every 9.4 seconds in 2025.

• In the U.S. we added 2.6 million people in 2024, and our population as of New Year’s Day will be 341 million people.

• The U.S. will add one new person every 21.2 seconds.

• India is the most populated country in the world with an estimated 1.41 billion people.

• China is the second most populated country with China with 1.408 billion people.

• The United States is third with 341 million people.

If you live on the East Coast you might want to put on a sweatshirt and bundle up in a blanket, because forecasts call for an unusually colder January. With all things supply-and-demand related, natural gas prices have surged 20%. So I guess you can ring in the new year cold and a little more broke. 2025 is off to a great start!

David Beckham has a smashing 2024, earning $124 million dollars from branding, endorsements, investments, and his Inter Miami FC soccer team.

Nvidia completed its acquisition of the Israeli startup Run:ai, which helps manage and optimize AI hardware infrastructure in datacenters. This marks the 23rd acquisition Nvidia has made during its history, and the 6th acquisition in 2024.

🏈 Sports

Former NY Giants running back Saquon Barkley just joined the NFL's rarest club with 2,000 running yards during the 2024 season. The current Philadelphia Eagles star broke the record on Sunday, December 29 in the game against the Dallas Cowboys when he rushed for 167 yards on 31 carries to beat the Cowboys with a final score of 41 - 7.
