Amazon is bringing a generative AI tool to their shopping platform to help answer shoppers’ questions.

How will consumers respond when they can ask an AI anything about a product right from the product’s listing page?

My guess is they respond in ways Amazon could never imagine.

What could possibly go wrong?

In an article on CNBC their new generative AI tool is described as enabling shoppers to ask questions about a specific product in order to save them from having to “scroll through pages of reviews or reading through a listing to find information about an item.”

The new feature is being rolled out only on Amazon’s mobile app, and will prompt a shopper to ask a question about a specific item, and then return an answer within a few seconds with a summary of information from the products listing and reviews of the product by other shoppers.

I won’t lie - this could actually save me a TON of time. I spend a lot of time scrolling through product listings on Amazon trying to figure out if the product fits exactly what I’m looking for, if it has good reviews from other users, and what if any issues others have experienced with the product. A summary of all that would save me literally hours a week in my research.

Before you go thinking that Amazon’s new AI will hallucinate answers to shopper’s questions, rest assured some failsafes have been baked into the software. Amazon’s generative AI isn’t like OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This new feature from Amazon can’t carry out a conversation with shoppers; it just returns results of a query in the form of a summary.

Here’s where Amazon’s engineers had a little fun. You can get your summary in boring, basic conversational format, or you could request Amazon to write you a haiku about the product.

Still too tame for you?

How about asking it to respond in the style of Yoda from Star Wars?

Attention you now have of me.

On a scale from 1-10 how excited are you for the launch of Apple’s Vision Pro headset?

(looking around the room and seeing a bunch of people with a 1 raised)

That’s what I thought.

Don’t get my wrong, I love the “idea” of an AR/VR headset, and if anyone is going to do it right it’s Apple, but without a killer app out there what’s there to convince people to shell out $3,500 just so they can set at home wearing one of these headsets when they could just experience the same thing on their computer or TV.

And before you peg me as some kind of headset Luddite I’ll have you know my family was gifted a Meta Quest 2 headset 2 years ago, and it sits unused after the initial excitement.

Apple is bringing this 1st new product to market since they introduced the Apple Watch in 2014. For this 1st edition of the Apple’s Vision Pro headset Apple will only be able to produce between 60,000-80,000 units for the release Feb. 2, 2024 launch due to supply chain challenges.

As for whether Apple’s Vision Pro headset will sell out? Yea, probably!

Never underestimate the Apple Fanboys out there.

I’m prepared for Top Gun 3 to “Take My Breath Away”. Are you?

According to sources close to the Top Gun franchise, a script for a 3rd installment in the Top Gun saga is in the works.

Here’s what we know, and don’t know.

There’s no signed deal yet, but judging by the $1.496 Billion with a capital B that “Top Gun: Maverick” made worldwide I’m guessing they’ll be able to get all of the actors, directors, and producers on board with making a new movie.

When it comes to making movies Tom Cruise isn’t just standing there saying “Show me the money!”. He’s screaming from the top of his lungs Cash Rules Everything Around Me (C.R.E.A.M.) Thanks for indulging me for the Wu-tang Clan reference.

“Top Gun: Maverick” was produced by Tom Cruise, Jerry Bruckheimer and Joseph Kosinski who also directed the movie. Any new movie would most likely be a sequel, so that means we can expect to also see both Miles Teller and Glen Powell reprising their roles. No word yet on fan favorites Natasha Trace who played “Phoenix”, or Robert Floyd who played “Bob”, but I sure hope they bring them both back too.

The first draft of the script is being developed by writer Ehren Kruger, who co-wrote “Top Gun: Maverick,” so you know we’re in good hands.

What we don’t know is when we could expect to see a Top Gun 3 in theaters. “Top Gun: Maverick” took 8 years to develop, and 2 years to make it.

So do we have to wait another decade to get a new Top Gun?

Probably not.

Studios like to hit while the irons are still hot, and based on “Top Gun: Maverick” phenomenal success at the box office getting a Top Gun 3 greelit will be easy. If they’re already working on a script, and I can’t imagine any actors saying no to reprising their roles, then I’m going to guess it’ll take 1-2 years of development, then 2 years to make the movie, which should bring us out to a launch date of July 2026 at the earliest.

I leave you with one of my favorite lines from “Top Gun: Maverick”:

Hondo: “I don’t like that look Mav.”

Maverik: “It’s the only one I got.”

If I had to pick what the most talked about topic in the NFL in 2023 was, besides Taylor Swift attending Kansas City Chiefs games to watch her boyfriend Travis Kelce play, I’d have to pick the ‘Tush Push’.

Some call it ‘The Brotherly Shove’, others call it the ‘Tush Push’, but whatever you do don’t sleep on this new play that has changed the game in 2023.

So where did this name come from anyways?

The ‘Tush Push’ isn’t a new concept. It just never had a catchy name until this year.

You can credit the Philadelphia Eagles with popularizing this play, and that’s where the name ‘The Brotherly Shove’ came from, based on Philadelphia being known as the “City of Brotherly Love”.

To break it down for any of you who aren’t into American Football, or who haven’t watched a NFL game in a while, the ‘Tush Push’ is the same exact play that’s been around for decades called the ‘Quarterback Sneak’. It’s typically used when the ball is only like a yard short of a 1st down or goal line.

An example of this by the Philadelphia Eagles’ Quarterback Jalen Hurts is when he drives forward with the football following the snap, while the rest of his team pushes him in the direction of the 1st down or goal line.

The Philadelphia Eagles may be out of the Playoffs, but at least their famous play will live on infamy.

Real Estate

With neighbors like Katy Perry, how could Maria Sharapova go wrong with her new $11.5 Million Montecito House?

Maria Sharapova just bought a 3.3 acre, 6 bedroom, 5 ½ bathrooms, featuring tall retractable walls of glass to blend the indoors with the home’s extensive grounds. The estate also sports a large 1 bedroom detached guest house, as well as an outdoor kitchen, infinity pool with ocean views, and a three-car garage.

It must be nice to be Maria Sharapova.

So much news, so little time. Until tomorrow we’re signing out.
