Mariah Carey Christmas Tour, Uber package pickups, Epic Games Metaverse, Prada Spacesuits, and Seahawks' Tyler Lockett sells real estate
In today’s newsletter we discuss Mariah Carey Christmas Tour, Uber package pickups, Epic Games Metaverse, Prada Spacesuits, and Seahawks' Tyler Lockett sells real estate
Business
Finally a service that I may not be able to live without. Uber is now offering a service to pick up your packages and take them to UPS, FedEx or USPS for only $5 (or $3 if you're an Uber One member - whatever that is).
In our family we’re constantly ordering stuff, then sending it back. Blame Amazon’s 1-click for my family’s poor impulse control. I can honestly say that I take packages back to the UPS Store 2-3 times a week. I also have a PO Box there, so it’s kind of part of my routine.
It's taken almost 14 years, $22.2 billion in Venture Capital funding over 20 rounds, and $32 billion in total losses, but Uber is now a profitable company. This latest package pickup and return business is sure to goose their quarterly profits nicely, while helping fools like me who order too many Amazon packages and hate having to return them.
Crypto
Even in the middle of a harsh crypto winter, and after “epic” layoffs (see what I did there), Epic Games CEO said in an interview that he still believes in the metaverse. Is he just a fool, or a diehard believer that his company Epic Games could be just what the metaverse needs?
Just last week the company laid off 16% of their workforce leaving 830 employees with pink slips. This comes as it’s been reported Epic Games is valued at roughly $32 Billion as of 2022, and in 2023 has a new profit of $1.19 billion in 2021, they had $5.76 billion in revenue in 2021, and their Founder and CEO Tim Sweeney had a net worth of $7.4 billion as of Q3 2022.
Space
Who says you can’t be fashionable while doing your runway walk on the Moon.? (no one really says that, but they should). In an article I can’t believe I’m even writing about, Prada “has partnered with Axiom Space to design the spacesuits for the Artemis III mission that’s currently scheduled for 2025.”
Prada, which is valued at roughly $6.55 billion, sold $3.93 billion in luxury goods worldwide in 2022. NASA, by comparison, is on track to spend roughly $93 billion on its Artemis moon programme through 2025. So yea, why not spend a little bit extra coin for stylish spacesuits.
Entertainment
I’ll be honest, all I want for Christmas is more Mariah Carey! She’s the holiday gift that keeps on giving; sorta like how the Hallmark Channel never runs out of formulaic Christmas movies that my mom can’t get enough of, but I digress.
Mariah is back with a “Merry Christmas One And All Tour” that she announced on social media with tickets going on sale on 10/6.
Mariah Carey has a net worth of $340 million, and is one of the best-selling music artists of all-time, having sold over 220 million records globally.
Real Estate
Not all former NFL starts sit around reminiscing about their glory days playing football. For the Seahawks' Tyler Lockett he’s thinking about his growing second career in real estate.
Tyler Lockett has “$70 million in on-field earning sand is now a real estate agent in his spare time, with a license in two states and several multimillion dollar transactions under his belt.”
After he signed his first extension with the Seahawks in 2018 he began watching HGTV while preparing to buy his first home and was instantly hooked on real estate. Now he’s working with clients and listing properties such as a $3.3 million home in Kirkland, Washington, and “has been a part of seven transactions totaling nearly $17 million in combined sales volume.”
So much news, so little time. Until tomorrow we’re signing out.
