Earlier this week I had the opportunity to travel back to my alma mater SUNY Plattsburgh, where I went to undergrad, to speak to a couple of first year Entrepreneur and Marketing classes. I’ve been giving back to my alma mater for close to 10 years by going to speak to classes, and share with them ups and downs of entrepreneurship.

This year I shared my new venture irl Media, and at the end of the Advanced Marketing class I turned the conversation around and asked them for advice.

You know how they say “careful what you wish for”, well the students didn’t disappoint. Now I’m obviously no longer as young as I was when I was in college, and I’m clearly a little out of my element when it comes to social media, but they gave me a crash course in hashtags, posting frequency, the best times to post, how to chase trending topics, and thumbnail creation.

I think sometimes people are too egotistical to ask others for help, or are convinced that younger generations don’t know what they’re talking about.

I think we can all learn from each other, and I know I took away a lot of great advice, and I feel energizes by the advice I got from those students.
